Greenpeace climbers hung a banner on Mount Rushmore challenging President Obama to show real leadership on global warming. The banner, measuring sixty-five feet high by thirty-five feet wide, features an unfinished portrait of Obama with the message, \"America honors leaders not politicians: Stop Global Warming.\"
You Can Take Action Too. Petition Obama for Real Solutions to the Climate Crisis:
http://gpeace.convio.net/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=472&s_src=yt
The demonstration comes as President Obama meets other G8 leaders in L\'Aquila, Italy today to discuss the global warming crisis in the lead-up to UN climate treaty negotiations in Copenhagen this December. [More] [Less] |

EnviroMission Limited (www.enviromission.com.au) produced this 5 minute video on the pilot plant in Spain. It is an older video (2000) but gives a decent understanding of the solar tower concept.
EnviroMission, Ltd. (US Market: EVOMY, Australian Exchange: EVM) is a renewable energy developer of sustainable \"green\" energy solutions for the energy market. EnviroMission aims to be one of Australia\'s leading producers of clean renewable energy. EnviroMission holds the proprietary rights to Solar Tower technology, a large-scale renewable energy technology based on simple fundamentals of physics -- hot air rises. Solar Tower technology has the potential to offer competitive renewable energy with equal reliability to fossil fuel generators.
A single 200MW Solar Tower power station will provide enough electricity to power around 400,000 households. The energy output will represent an annual saving of more than 1,960,000 tonnes of greenhouse CO2 gases from entering the environment when compared to brown coal emissions in Victoria. The greenhouse savings equate to the removal of approximately 500,000 cars from the road. The Australian Solar Tower project consists of six distinct phases, the first two of which (project optimization and pre-feasibility commercialization) have already been completed. The third phase (final feasibility), paving the way for the implementation of the next three phases (final design, construction, and commercial operation). [More] [Less] |

\"The Most Terrifying Video You\'ll Ever See\" has over 7,200,000 views, but this sequel makes the better argument.
And now even this 7-hour series has been trumped by the book: \"What\'s the Worst That Could Happen? A Rational Response to the Climate Change Debate.\" Available from Amazon and others through the links at www.gregcraven.org.
Author Bill McKibben said \"This book trumps most of our accounts of the global warming crisis,\" the former Commander-in-Chief of U.S. CENTCOM Gen. Anthony Zinni called it \"innovative and intelligent.... superbly crafted.... A must read,\" and the New Scientist said \"If Craven could get everybody who has weighed in on this debate to go through the exercises in the book, Al Gore should share his Nobel peace prize.\"

Lowe Bull Johannesburg walked off with a Bronze Pencil at the 34th annual One Show at the Frederick P. Rose Hall at Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York, on Wednesday night, 6 May 2009. Commercials Director, Anton Visser, has directed an ad for Food and Trees for Africa with Lowe Bull that has won bronze at the One Show. The ad is an impactful idea reflecting how printing unnecessarily has the potential to deplete our forests. View it on www.trees.co.za Grey South Africa has won a bronze award for direct mail at the annual Clio Awards held in Las Vegas for their \"Little Book of How to Save Trees\" for Food and Trees for Africa in the direct mail category. Change begins with ONE. Jeunesse established Progreen in 1989 after extensive travel and diverse work experience. Progreen, South Africas first environmental communications and public relations company, promoted awareness of the importance of sustainable development, environmental issues and climate change and worked with local and international organisations, government and companies on a range of environmental projects and events. In 1991 Jeunesse brought Bill Mollison, founder of Permaculture, to SA to introduce Permaculture as a viable development tool for food safety and security and sustainable land use management. For the next 16 years she organised Permaculture Design Courses that enlightened hundreds of people and developed many trainers. In 1990, Jeunesse conceptualised and established Food & Trees for Africa (then Trees for Africa). She conceptualised and developed national greening, climate change and food gardening programmes and lobbied for the inclusion of urban forestry, urban agriculture and Permaculture in government policy. Jeunesse has been awarded the Mail and Guardian Green Trust Award for Established Environmentalists of SA, the Mail and Guardian Chairmans Award for Excellence, the Eskom Chairmans Award, the International Chevron Conservation Award, the Nelson Mandela Forestry Award, the United Nations Environment Programme Sasakawa Award for Climate Change and the Caroline French Morton Arbor Foundation Award. In 2008 Jeunesse joined Global Carbon Exchange (www.globalcarbonexchange.com). Jeunesse lives and works with an understanding that one can change the world! [More] [Less] |

In Africa, gorillas and other apes and monkeys are hunted for their meat. The capital of Cameroon is rife with illegal bush meat traders throwing their goods off a trains to meet the market trade. Slaughtered animals from the African bush arrive in market towns across Africa every day. Although the trade is banned, markets still accept the meat for sale. As the 21st Century begins as the Age of Drought, a look at three places--Florida, China, and Nevada--where dryness has gone big. In Florida, the world\'s most famous swamp, the Everglades, has been turning into a salt flat. In China, vast problems with water pollution have been compounded in some areas by problems of having no water. And Nevada\'s Lake Mead, once the largest reservoir in the world, now is given a 50% chance of drying up completely in the next dozen years. [More] [Less] |
